The Perfect Take is a Lie

“One more take and it will be perfect!”

“One more mix revision and the track will be perfect!”

Stop. No, it’s not. It’s a lie that you keep telling yourself. The perfect take or track doesn’t exist. I used to be the artist who reworked his music a zillion times because of anxiety and insecurity.

Does this sound familiar?

You start writing a song: lyrics, melody and vibe comes naturally. You are excited about your work. But then you start overthinking it, tweaking the production endlessly! Crippling self-doubt takes over and you waste too much time on being perfect instead of creating as much music as possible.

Focus on the emotions/story you want to tell, the human touch and you’re gonna spend less time tweaking your songs. Imagine what you can do with this free time! Write new songs, write a plan to release your music, go for a walk, …

Noel Gallagher once quoted: “True perfection has to be imperfect. I know that sounds foolish, but it’s true.”

Let’s aim for the ‘imperfect perfection’.
